eleven homes is a cluster housing project comprised of a four car parking garage, an outdoor sauna, and a long housing structure with 11 units on a site on cedar street and james avenue north in minneapolis the entire envelope of each building is built using a 10’x10’x1’ precast cellcrete panel, with plywood furring wall on the interior. the spaces are either stove heated in the case of the sauna, unconditioned for the shared entries, and conditioned by central air conditioning in the units.
the housing structure sits along the perimeter of the triangular site, the sauna sits in the middle of the property, and the parking structure at the top of the site. by siting the long housing structure parallel to james, the rest of the site acts as a large undeveloped park with a garden, sauna, and trees scattered throughout. heavy curtains suspended along the side of the building create a dynamic facade that can create stage-like moments in the breezeway of the housing structure.
